Ex BNP members claim asylum in USA

I am not sure what to make of this as in today's climate in the Uk anything that anybody says can be classed as a hate crime, it is ver easy to fall foul of this highly vague piece of legislation.

It would appear that two men have been found guilty of committing a hate crime by posting things/articles on their web site.

http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/Racehate-pair-flee-to-US.4291680.jp

Simon Sheppard and Stephen Whittle were arrested, charged and found guilty of said  "hate crime"

Sheppard, of Brook Street, Selby, was found guilty after a seven-week trial of 11 counts of publishing racially inflammatory written material.

The jury gave unanimous verdicts on nine of the charges on Friday, and returned with two majority verdicts on Monday while Sheppard was absent.

Whittle, of Avenham Lane, Preston, was convicted of five counts of publishing racially inflammatory written material.

These two men then decided to skip bail and flee to America and claim Political asylum.

This is a very sad indictment of this country when  members of our population feel the need for the protection of another country.

This  "race Hate" law is at best very very vague

From the Home Office

Hate crime

Hatred is a strong term that goes beyond simply causing offence or hostility. Hate crime is any criminal offence committed against a person or property that is motivated by an offender's hatred of someone because of their:

race, colour, ethnic origin, nationality or national origins
     religion
     gender or gender identity
     sexual orientation
     disability

Hate crime can take many forms including:

physical attacks – such as physical assault, damage to property, offensive graffiti, neighbour disputes and arson

threat of attack – including offensive letters, abusive or obscene telephone calls, groups hanging around to intimidate and unfounded, malicious complaints

verbal abuse or insults - offensive leaflets and posters, abusive gestures, dumping of rubbish outside homes or through letterboxes, and bullying at school or in the workplace

Our definition of a hate crime:

Any incident, which constitutes a criminal offence, which is perceived by the victim or any other person as being motivated by prejudice or hate.

So you see if somebody feels that an action which they may not like and affects them is a hate crime then it is.

Just what did these men write do or say, sadly that is not clear, I have visited the site in question heretical.com  and although I did not follow every link (there are many) initially I could not see anything that would have constituted a hate crime in my book.

Significantly the men were ex members of the BNP and I cannot help but think this association had a large part to play in the decision making of the court.

So there it is British people claiming asylum in America, how sad is that, what must our government feel, what must the Americans think of Britain if the British are seeking their protection from their own British Government, sad, truly sad

This is another stage in the stifling of the age old freedoms we had, be careful everybody, Big Brother really is here, peace is war, war is peace, the ministry of truth awaits those who dare think otherwise.

Well I went and had a look and I found something about Jews that was rather offensive.

It is a pity that these two went and took that route as it may close it off from people like us when our time comes...

Does anyone know if Lionheart applied for political assylum?

But having said all that they still have a right to free speach, so I hope they get political assylum, the issue comes in that if they get rejected what happens to people like us who my go down the same route.

In regards to the hate laws, I have noticed Christians now standing up and using them much to the constenation of the left, also these laws are resulting in multiple cases of discrimination, its rather amusing to watch, the law of unforeseen conequences comes to mind.

Asylum is the last resort for somebody who has given up hope and the fight.

Is that what we've come to?

Ed, not at this point, its a very useful tool to embarrass the UK and the EU over their lack of fundamental freedoms. Its quite delicious to see people fleeing political thought crime trials and hopefully the USA media will jump all over it, hold on as they are run by lefties too, no chance, but perhaps the blogs will. As I said earlier if I could have picked people to do this it would not have been these two...

The UK's 'hate crime' laws are quite ridiculous.

They remind me of here, in Australia, in the middle 1980's when we were trying to frame the Workplace Sexual Harrassment Laws. After only a little consultation with us-the-workers the government gazetted a set of laws which were so preposterously inadequate that it left all MEN open to outright sexual abuse.

I was both a teacher and a student at a technical college at the time and had been asked to help with the first draft of the laws.

One night, while I was in class as student, my rather attractive-looking male teacher announced that he would read out the new laws...

I couldn't believe what he read out. I asked him to read it all out again. He did. He and I were also colleagues and he knew I'd be annoyed about the inherent sexism in the new laws since he and I had discussed the actual phrasing of some of them.

After his second reading, it was obvious that he and I were the only ones in the room who had spotted the flaws.

The new laws read that he could not even look a female student directly in the eye even if he was addressing an answer to her question. At the same time, I,as one of his female students was free to stare into his eyes, smile licentiously, get up from my desk, approach him slowly and, yea, even seductively. I was legally free to embrace him, fondle him, and kiss him passionately.

He, being male, had no rights under this new law to file charges against me.

A good teacher is always supposed to demonstrate the lesson...

So I did. And then he and I explained to the rest of the class just how blatantly sexist the law was.

We got that set of laws reframed and rephrased quite quickly.

That's what you need in regard to these 'Hate Crime' laws.

It can't be left to the Constant Victim to claim that they have been 'offended' and that to be sufficient for a conviction.

I'm a Pommie living in Australia. I don't find it offensive: Australians have been calling the English 'pommies' for over a hundred years before I even got born. That's just one word in Australian-English and if I want to live here then I simply have to accept it.

I have met many English migrants here who really get incensed about being called Pommies.

Stuff 'em. If they don't like it, they can go home. No-one invited them to come.

The Constant Victim is not an excuse for the persecution of others. If you don't like someone or something, you should have the right to speak your piece, or write your piece. No-one has to agree with you, or even to agree to disagree either.

I don't have any issues with Jews, thanks to growing up here in Australia. The only people in Australia who have any problems with'jews' or 'jewishness' is Jews themselves (who are ususally looked at as though they are somewhat odd when they say anything about 'jewishness' -like who cares??) and of course, Muslims.

Muslims make a big fuss about anything at all. They are heavily into "Being Offended"
